In the Dax for the Boilermaker

Monday, July 11th, 2011

I took Rosie up to the Adirondaks for the weekend to hang out with Corey and Noah.  Nathan and Jo were able to join us at Trail’s End Campground for the night before the 2011 Boilermaker.  All four of them ran the 15K,  I was very proud of them all!  Caitlin and Dan ran as well and joined us for a picnic celebrating Nathan’s 30th birthday after the race.

I think this picture was taken by Jo not long before the battery fell out of the trailer.  I’m thankful the battery didn’t hit Nathan’s car or rip up the trailer on it’s way out.  I’ve since replaced the battery straps (which rusted out) and the battery.

BASH II

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

I had a blast at the Bash II.  My aluminum tent was a step up from the truck tent I slept in last year.  Maybe I’ll have inner skins and utilities next year!

I didn’t take many pictures at Bash II, so I’m adding other people’s pics to my album as I find them.  I will give credit to any I grab and let the owner know.

Highlights

  • Frank, Ace, and Steve’s wonderful breakfast overlooking Cooper’s Lake.
  • Antsy singing at the camp file and having him visit my aluminum tent.
  • Frank, Beth, Halle, Bill, Gabbi, and Michael at the school bus demolition derby (what a riot)
  • Picking on Obie about my camp site’s address:  2 Sewage Lane.
  • Telling the story about the huge raccoon who ate everything in my cooler and scared the bejesus out of me at 1 am.
  • Seeing old friends and meeting new friends.
  • Playing with all the kids and dogs!  Crafts, rockets, ice cream, all great fun!

Cleanup and camping

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

I camped in the trailer at Robert H. Treman State Park with a couple other trailer folks this weekend.  Robin, Mark, and I took a field trip to Fletch’s and then spent a quiet afternoon hanging out with Robin and mom.  On Sunday, the crew took a hike up the gorge to the upper falls. There was a nice campfire thanks to Mick.  It was such a joy to talk trailers with kindred souls.

I was waiting for Mark's photos since his are so wonderful, but I'll post my crappy one for now.

Last weekend, I finished cleaning off the inside of the exterior walls.  I also finished sorting out the wires so now the only ones running across the ceiling are the exterior lights.  The 12 volt is all removed and the gauge wires are all wrapped up in a bag.  I feel badly that I did not do this before taking it down to Frank, he should not have had to fight with my tangled mess.

I sealed up the front window and I’m still working on the window gaskets for the side windows and adding the fuzzy weatherstripping to the screens as I go.

Bash, bang, boom

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Had a great time at the Birthday Bash in Plymouth, NY at the home of Rob Baker last weekend.  Thanks to Rob&Zoey, Frank&Beth, Steve, Ace, Deborah, Ansty&Grant, Michael, and all the other folks who helped make this a wonderful event.  I didn’t mind being in my truck tent, but hopefully the next time I go camping, it will be with Rosie (see latest post from Frank).  I really enjoyed seeing old friends and making new ones, some two legged, some four.   I met people I had been following on AirForums and got lots of good ideas wandering into people’s trailers.  Craig, Sue, Mom, K&N came for the open house and seemed to contract the Airstream bug.  Sitting in the field Saturday night, watching the fireworks, then listening to Antsy and Michael was a most memorable time  (Rob’s Bash post with links to pictures).

Even though Rosie is not ready to leave Frank camp yet, the majority of work is completed and she will return soon (no date set).  So I ordered the reflective insulation (Prodex) and have been designing the new electric system with the idea of solar in the future when my budget recovers in a year or two.  For now, I’ll be thrilled to have a replacement for the old Univolt inverter and looking at using my gift certificate from Cay at Vintage Trailer Supply for a new converter/charger.  Before I do either of those things, I need to be sure Rosie is as water tight as possible, need to talk to Frank about leaks and seam sealers next time we connect.

Rosie is visiting Baltimore

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

I cruised down the highway to MD yesterday with Rosie.  I realized halfway through PA that we had not been out of the state together.  I know she lived in PA and Florida at some point.  It was a great trip down – good weather, pretty scenery, clear roads, not too much traffic, friendly truckers, and a good book to listen to thanks to Carol.  The new-to-me tow vehicle (2007 Tundra) did GREAT, pulled lil’Rosie like a charm.  I’m kicking myself for not taking the camera or taking phone pictures.  Especially once we got her settled in at her temporary home.

She is now in the hands of Frank Yensan of Frank’s Trailer Works where she will get many things done, including a new floor and axles. Yeah!  I met up with Frank off Rt 695 and we drove to his storage place.  He was very patient helping me practice backing her up into a nice spot. I didn’t take out any body, buildings, or poles, no animals were injured in this process (I did get to meet the jubilant ‘Cash’, a beautiful Chesapeake Retriever).  I had the good fortune to meet Frank’s family and be treated with delicious homemade cookies and great coffee.

Sampson State Park – NE Tin Can Tourist

Monday, September 21st, 2009

I made it to the rally.  The highlights for me were listening to Richie Sterns of the Horseflies, Bubba George, and Evil City String Bands with Craig, and taking a lovely ride along the lake trail with my sister and Marc.  The open house was also a blast, fun trailers and friendly folks.

Fletch and Denise were great hosts!
